Unfortunately I don’t have time to wash them myself anymore but there’s a detail place in SOMA that does a great job.

How’s living with that thing? I’ll be getting one soon, just trying to figure out if I’m going cs, csi, or csl.

*Goes to look up what exactly an E9 is and how much they cost*

In stock from (which mine is not) they are super solid GT cars. Can run at 90 MPH all day long.
The well-known weak area is rust, and given the cost of remediation you should buy the most rust-free example you can. Even if that means getting one with mechanical issues, since those are very easy to sort out comparatively. Sunroof cars are substantially worse in the rust arena given how they drain (or don’t).
Other weaker areas are fairly well known. The AC system is not that great, even when converted to a modern compressor like on my car. The windows might be the slowest production electric windows that have ever been put on a car but on the other hand they are pretty prone to malfunction.
Bombing around the twisties with the windows down or hauling ass along B-roads is phenomenal.

Awesome. I’m pretty excited. I’m in southern CA, so we have it better than most as far as rust is concerned.

Yeah, don’t buy an IL barn find like I did unless you want to spend $20k on bodywork.
If you are in SoCal you should absolutely be talking to Carl at bimmerdoc.com (or Ben who I generally deal with - if you speak to him tell him John in SF with the inka coupe says hi). Also the e9coupe.com forum is great although I have been too busy to spend time there lately.

Awesome leads. Thanks man. I really do need to talk to an expert.

Carl is semi-retired, Ben runs the place now, but he’s every bit as good. La Jolla Independent is an incredible resource.

Yeah, I’ve been through there a few times. They have some pretty incredible shit in there. I’ve been meaning to drop by and pick their brains a little bit.

I was walking around La Jolla with a friend recently and strolled by their shop. So much porn on the display floor. Practically had my nose pressed up against the glass.
